Muhu is the natural habitat to 23 species of very rare orchids. They prosper in the rich bio-diversity of our Island. Our swamps, fens and Juniper forests provide a healthy but fragile environment for their survival.
As guest we welcome you to fully enjoy the beauty of our nature, but we ask you kindly to treat our fragile nature with the utmost care in return. All orchids are under nature protection and should be admired only. Picking orchid flowers is forbidden and endangers their survival. To give an idea of their vulnerability; Some of the species have a dormant cycle of 10 to 15 years before their seeds grow into a new plant. Under such conditions every seed is of paramount importance to survival.
