The Story of Muhu Bread

At Muhu, we bake bread just as it has been done at home for generations — every single day. Behind Muhu Bread is our family, living and working on this idyllic island, alongside our experienced baking masters in the bakery. We do not focus on marketing or overemphasize the role of modern technology.

Our best product is Muhu Seed Bread — “truly sweet and good,” our very first creation. We are sincere believers in rye; we could easily claim the title of the world’s number one small-scale rye bread producer. We make our bread using rye grown in Estonia and flour slowly milled in Jahu-Jaani stone mills. When choosing ingredients, we follow a simple principle: only the best is good enough.

In our dough, we add unrefined cane sugar, carefully selected dried herbs, seeds and nuts, and pure sea salt. We use apple cider vinegar from Ideafarm, located across the Väike Strait, hemp seeds from Tammejuure Farm, and a hemp blend from Vegetein.
