Traditional Muhu bonfire in Hellamaa
Summer on Muhu always arrives with a spark—but this year, it kicks off with a full-on explosion of energy, as the island’s most awaited midsummer week launches with none other than “5 Miinust” live in concert! Happening tonight, June 21, from 19:00 to 21:00 at Liiva Turuhall, this high-octane performance promises to shake the sleepy fields awake and get the party started in true Estonian style. Whether you’re a local or a lucky visitor, tonight is the night to dance under the open sky and feel the pulse of Muhu beat to the rhythm of summer.
And just when you think the energy couldn’t get higher, Muhu reveals its softer, glowing side…
From June 22 to 24, the timeless elegance of Pädaste Manor takes over. Nestled along the serene southern coast, this luxurious retreat hosts a more refined midsummer celebration. Expect exquisite cuisine, atmospheric music, and a setting straight out of a dream. The manor’s leafy courtyards become alive with gentle laughter, jaani-fire and local music, when tradition and elegance meet under the solstice sun.
Then comes the island’s crowning midsummer tradition: the Muhu Parish Jaaniõhtu in Hellamaa, lighting up the night on June 23 from 20:00 to 01:00. The entire island gathers on the Hellamaa song and sports field for a joyful, communal bonfire celebration. The evening begins with a festive procession, and continues with folk dances, choir songs, wreath-weaving, children’s games, and hearty island food. Live music by local Muhu folk stars, and the star of the evening - Rõõmusbänd, rounds out a night brimming with authentic Muhu soul.
Whether you’re rocking out with “5 Miinust,” sipping fine wine in a manor garden, or sharing stories by the bonfire, Muhu’s Midsummer is an experience that wraps every sense in light, laughter, and tradition. It’s not just a celebration—it’s a feeling, a memory in the making, and an open invitation to join the island’s beating heart.
